Leadership

Rev. Ryan Mowen

Lead Pastor

Meet Pastor Ryan
Close

I came to Atonement with my family in January 2020 to serve as Lead Pastor. My calling to pastoral ministry began in 2009, and has included roles as an Associate Pastor and Interim Lead Pastor.

My calling to ministry is rooted in grace. Though I was raised in the Church, God’s grace became real to me in high school, and from that point He began reshaping my life. In my freshman year of college, I fell in love with studying God’s Word, and in the years that followed, I sensed a clear calling to preach the real hope and help that Jesus brings us through every passage of Scripture.

A pastor’s calling is to walk with people through real life—bringing the hope of the gospel to everyday burdens and decisions, not just Sunday worship. Pastoral ministry also means shepherding and discipling: strengthening the local church, raising up leaders, and helping gospel-centered communities grow and multiply. It’s a calling I’m grateful for—and one the Lord continues to use to transform me.

When I’m not working, you’ll often find me enjoying great coffee (light and medium roasts), working outside on our farm, and spending time with my wife (4th grade crush) and our two sons.

Education:

B.A. in Biblical Studies from Liberty University

M.Div. from Reformed Theological Seminary (Washington, D.C.)

Hi! I’m Luke Link, Atonement’s Director of Music and Worship. My role blends hands-on music direction and general oversight in the context of our weekly worship services. From week to week, I direct the Atonement Band and Atonement Choir, play the organ, plan services with our senior pastor, and oversee our liturgy and A/V teams. Nothing gives me greater joy in my work than to invite people from wherever they are into honest worship on Sunday mornings. I’m six years married to my wife, Emily, and we have one precocious toddler who keeps us busy and delighted. I’m an avid learner and am fascinated by everything from physics to history to astronomy and so on. On your next visit, catch me running from one place to the next and say hi – I’ll be happier to know you (I also might ask if you sing!).

Hi! I’m Allison Miller, and I have the joy of serving as the Director of Children’s Ministry here at Atonement. I love helping kids grow in their faith, discover who God is, and build lasting friendships that point them toward Jesus. It’s a blessing to watch their excitement and curiosity remind us all what childlike faith looks like! As the Director, I oversee programs that help kids grow in their faith and feel connected to the church community. This includes leading Sunday lessons and activities, supporting and training volunteers, partnering with families to nurture faith at home, planning special events and holiday celebrations, and creating a safe and welcoming space where every child can experience God’s love. My husband and I have three energetic boys who keep life fun and full of adventure. When I’m not at church, you can usually find me enjoying time outdoors or with a good cup of coffee in hand.

Christian Hester

Director of Youth Ministry

Hello, my name is Christian Hester, and I am the Youth Director.

My wife and I moved to Maryland this past January when I began serving as the Youth Director. I absolutely love working with youth because of their abundant energy and questions. I was brought to Christ because of a thriving youth ministry, and I hope to share the love of Christ that I have received. I have been working to share the love of Christ through two summers of camp ministry and youth internships.

I love Atonement because it embodies the diversity of Christ’s church so well. As a military child I have moved many times, but because of that I have seen the diversity of Christ’s church and how He can work in so many unique places. I love seeing this diversity in our church.

Hello, my name is Jim Rohrer and I am Atonement’s Connections Coordinator.

When my wife, Lynn, and I first attended Atonement over 25 years ago, we realized there was no need to search anywhere else for a church home. We were attracted by the friendly welcome, biblical teaching, and beautiful worship music. We have two adult children who grew up at Atonement.

I have been fortunate to serve as assimilation coordinator for several years. It’s a pleasure to welcome newcomers and to help them get plugged into the life of our church.

I enjoy outdoor activities, especially running, hiking, and gardening.

Hello! My name is Amy Hackman, and I serve as Atonement’s Care Coordinator.

In this role, I work closely with the Mercy Committee to provide support and assistance to individuals and families in need. I lead a Grief Share group twice a year.

I’m also a licensed psychotherapist, with a professional background that includes working for Montgomery County in homelessness prevention, managing an adult daycare, and supporting emotionally challenged adolescents.

I’ve been part of Atonement for over 20 years, but I still remember attending my very first service—how the music moved me and how I instantly knew this was where God wanted me to be.

Over the years, I’ve had the joy of teaching Sunday School to our four- and five-year-olds, leading the teen group and women’s group at Community Bible Study, and now, co-leading the middle and high school youth group.

My husband and I are blessed with four amazing children and a two-year-old grandson who keeps us on our toes! In my spare time, I enjoy knitting, crocheting, spinning my own yarn, and making jewelry.
If you see me around church, please don’t hesitate to say hello—I’d love to meet you!

As the Service Coordinator for the Children’s Ministry, I have the privilege of supporting Sunday School, Nursery Care and other special programs through volunteer recruitment, training and encouragement.

My husband, Matt, and I began attending Atonement together in 2009 because he grew up here and knew it was a great community for kids and families to be rooted in Gospel truth. In 2015, I began working on staff at Atonement. My work as the Service Coordinator has been a tremendous blessing because I get to serve alongside people who are passionate about sharing God’s love with the kids in their lives. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, watching my four kids play in various sporting events, playing board games with my family and cuddling with my dog, Willow.

Hi, I’m Karen DeHaven. I am the part-time Business Manager for Atonement. I am responsible for all the bookkeeping and accounting for the church – tracking donor gifts; paying bills and employees; preparing the annual budget; and reporting financial status to the Treasurer, Pastor, Session, Deacons, and ministry leaders. Serving as Business Manager also enables me to bring my passion for nourishing our bodies and souls with REAL food (the foods God gave us in the forms that concord with our physiology) and clean living to our church community. Additionally, I am a full-time Nutritional Therapist and Life Coach (Karen DeHaven Wellness LLC). I help people address chronic health issues with a natural approach through diet and lifestyle… gleaning from our ancestors’ wisdom before all of our industrialization and modernization. My desire each day is to show up in love and service to whomever God puts in my path (either in-person, phone or internet), and for God to grow my capacity to do so. Colossians 3:23-24

Hello, I’m Keri Jacobs, Office Manager.

I handle church communications—email newsletters, prayer requests, and other updates—and print many of Atonement’s publications, including bulletins and programs. My husband, Gary, and I have been members since 1987, and our three children grew up here. Atonement has been a prayerful support to our daughter with special needs. I enjoy writing Scripture-based music, playing piano and guitar, and directing 22 Too Many, a nonprofit honoring service members lost to suicide while supporting their grieving families.
